I can’t tell you how many people I talk with who are caught up in having some different circumstances or the perfect timing BEFORE they start a fitness program or start a diet/eating plan change. Here are a few examples:
– I need to lose weight before I workout
– I need to adjust my schedule before I can start eating differently
– I need to get my spouse or kids taken care of first
– I need to get through the holidays first
And on and on. You get the idea. Does any of this sound familiar? They want everything in life to be lined up so that their success seems to be inevitable. It’s basically the “if only…” scenario or reasoning before they do anything. Everything is about the future, but then tomorrow becomes next week, then next month, then never.
Truth time…How many times have you started a new diet or exercise program this year and stopped and restarted? Then there are those other people who are always living in the past. They’re replaying everything in their head. Magnifying all those ‘could haves’ and ‘should haves’ and ‘if only’.
And both of these groups are taking their eyes off the prize. The prize IS today. Right now.
Hey, I totally agree with and encourage mapping out a plan. I love visualization and work on this daily for myself and with my coaching clients. And I’m all for reminiscing about good times in the past when it leads to a smile or a laugh (Not sitting around commiserating and complaining). And most certainly learning from my past failures and successes also. But to succeed in whatever you want to do, you must be present today. In this moment and each moment of your day. You need to seize the moment at hand.
If you’re not appreciating and producing the things you want today, you can be sure that tomorrow will fall short of what you want it to be. Because that’s all life is, a series of todays. You do or you do not, either way the day will pass and a new one will begin.
How are you using yours? Are you building a healthy lifestyle around exercise, quality eating, gratitude, forgiveness, and positive relationships and enjoying the life you want to lead?
If you’re not, no one else is going to do it for you.
So today is your day…make the most of it, starting right now.
