Are you one of the millions of people who are feeling more frustrated, bitter, and finding it easier to get upset and angry with how the world is these days? It’s totally understandable right now with the world in a seemingly massive state of transition. Pick an area in life that does not feel like its in some state of flummox. Let’s put a positive direction on your thoughts today. Today’s post’s goal is to help you take a step back and focus on your mental and emotional state of being. “But Coach, it’s my fitness that is out of whack right now more than anything else.” Maybe it is. But, is it the cause or the result of your mental and emotional state? Here is a top tip: Your mental and emotional state of being have a direct and major impact on your physical health and weight loss. Think about your past workouts. When you are in a good mood, radio tunes cranking in your ears, energy up, you usually are mentally prepared and psyched up for a great workout and nothing stops you. Inversely, when you are tired, sad, mentally exhausted, emotionally taxed, even your same energy pumping tunes don’t usually do the job to get you motivated and into workout mode. Often instead of pressing on you may quit. It’s not worth it, no longer a priority, any excuse will work to skip it. I am totally on board with this challenge. I’ve driven to the gym too many times with my mind chattering the entire drive about all the reasons I have to skip my workout, turn around, take a nap, anything but workout. But instead of quitting, I let my mind keep talking while I kept walking right into the gym and immediately to the weight rack. And boom! Workout was on, mind chatter was out, my day got better. Because I didn’t give into the chatter. The solution here is not easy but when you are aware of the solution and your ability to overcome your thoughts and feelings ‘At That Moment’, you can Press on regardless. It takes some extra effort and a mental push when you may not feel like you have anything in the tank. But I guarantee that when you press through the negative you will come out with a positive and productive outcome. Often times more than just a good workout. A total “person” change. I had a super great client on Friday tell me that she was having a bad day on Thursday with no energy, mad, crappy people to deal with at work, didn’t want to workout, but then… She stopped the negative self-talk just long enough to tell herself that all of the chatter in her head is crap and she is worth the workout. It was important to keep her workout. She is on a roll and wasn’t going to let all the life negativity stop her, and just maybe, it will help turn her mood around. She got after it with a rough start and finished with a full mental and mood turn around and with restored energy! A real life example of someone who pressed on through the negative and came out with an amazing result. If you are feeling the affects of life lately, try these few tips to keep you on the positive side mentally, physically and emotionally. 1- Show gratitude. Not just having it by saying thank you (also good) but take it higher and express it to someone with your words and attitude. 2- Be aware of negative mind chatter. Be aware when your head is constantly complaining, judging and bitter. When you notice it, flip the comments, find something positive about the situation, take your comments to a neutral place, or just walk away from the negativity. 3- Workout regardless. A physical workout has many more victories than just physical growth and calorie burn. It is a mental victory because you showed up. It is an expression of self love because no matter what, you took the time and energy to take care of yourself. It is a mood changer because you could have chosen to stay negative and sulk, but you rose above, didn’t quit, and are ultimately victorious over circumstances of your day. Summary, when you are feeling the weight of life and its dragging you off a path of health and wellness, go and workout. Appreciate yourself for the victory and celebrate your win. Dismiss the negative thoughts and go be a positive influence on someone else’s life. |
