Have you said this before, or even recently. Seems like I hear it more now than ever. I think it’s all the “stuff” we have been pushing through in the past year. Is that an excuse? No. It’s just an observation.
Whether it’s fitness clients, friends, or family, I hear the same thing…
I’m just not motivated to ________.
Oh, if I had a dollar…
Here’s some harsh reality for you – the important motivation, the motivation to keep doing the thing that you know will benefit you but you’re not motivated to do comes AFTER you’ve already been doing it. You might want to read that again.
So, how’s that for a catch-22?
I’m not motivated but the only way to get motivated is to do the thing I’m not motivated to do?
YUP!
So, how do you do it then? You forget about motivation and you start with MOVEMENT.
By the way, this is where having a coach and/or making a commitment comes in. Because, at first may just do the thing from a sense of obligation, accountability, or even not wanting to waste an investment…and that’s totally cool.
Once you get moving you start to get some MOMENTUM going. With enough momentum, guess what? Motivation to keep going, to be CONSISTENT (the #1 driver of results), kicks in.
That’s how people who once had no motivation to work out become “lifers” – people who can no longer imagine a life that doesn’t include regular workouts.
And, THAT is why they’re enjoying more health, vitality, and self-confidence. Oh, and a nicer body that looks great all year too. 😉
That’s how people who never thought they could do something become what they only ever imagined. And, THAT is why they’re enjoying more abundance, freedom, and joy in their lives in total. So, stop talking about motivation and start focusing on getting movement. Just make a commitment to do the darn thing (find some accountability if you need to) and get the momentum going in your favor…
Before you know it, you’ve got yourself a nice habit.
And, as you know, good habits (behaviors) ultimately create good results.
