Did you happen to get outside early this morning? I did and it was actually a little chilly for a change which as we know signifies our season change.
What’s your personal fitness and eating plan for the next couple of weeks? Do you have one? If I look at class and personal training attendance history, there’s always a drop-off around this time.
Between getting kid stuff in order for back-to-school, driving kids to college, last-minute vacations, and even the State Fair, there’s a bunch of reasons (read that as excuses) for people to not continue eating well or show up for their workouts. But, does that mean you need to just “mail it in” the next couple of weeks?
Look, if you’ve been working hard all summer long showing up consistently, there’s nothing wrong with taking some time off. In fact, I encourage you to! That’s why we built in a 5-day recovery weekend over Labor Day. 🙂
But, if you’ve been inconsistent or always find yourself starting and stopping a fitness program, I want to encourage you to be a little more mindful of how you approach your end-of-summer workouts. If your tendency (or even your plan) is to bail on them and just start back up mid-September “when things become more routine”…PLEASE, DON’T!
I’m not saying you have to force it into your schedule where it doesn’t fit. But, at the same time, this is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to learn how to make it work. For example, if you’re currently working out 4 days a week, maybe you just show up 2 days a week. There’s “magic” in keeping the “weekly chain” going.
Or, if you normally do the in-person workouts, just give the online workouts a go, even if you don’t love/like them.
If you’ve never worked out on vacation before, try squeezing in a quick 10-minute circuit workout to start your day. (we have a library of IMpowered No Excuse 4-Minute Workouts, just email me back for some) Actually, here is one for you now “Legs and Cardio”
I can’t tell you how many times in my almost 25-year career I’ve seen people turn this 2-week hiatus into 2 months or even 2 years. They ALL had intentions of coming back in September “when they’re back to a normal routine.”
So, in short, please don’t mail it in these last couple of weeks because it often gets lost in the mail.
