Has someone or something ever made you angry to the point where you hold on to it and can’t shake it? Have you found yourself running the story over and over in your head until your anger turns into resentment? Most of us have done this many times in our lives, it’s part of being human and having feelings.
I will be the first to admit I have been on this road many times. Even to the point where it caused me physical ailments like: headache, stomach pain, digestive issues, mood swings, living in a state of upset and turning me angry at people and things that have nothing to do with that situation. Can you relate to any of these or know someone who can?
Here is some background and insight that may help for the next time you feel this happening. We tend to create and hold onto resentment because we feel like the person who did us wrong doesn’t deserve forgiveness. Why would they if they did us wrong? Meanwhile, the only person being punished by your resentment is you.
Forgiveness is about YOU deserving peace, not necessarily about others deserving your forgiveness. When you hold the resentment, it becomes ugly thoughts of ugly things taking up precious space in your head. And likely the more you rerun the story, the more momentum it picks up in a negative way.
But the good news is that you can stop the story and reverse into a better situation for yourself. Your top defenses are Self-love and forgiveness – which are both HUGE for our own health – mental, emotional, and physical.
Try this now if you have some resentment lingering or next time it sneaks up on you.
– Take a moment of quiet time and forgive yourself for your part in the situation – And yes, you will likely have a part somehow, no matter how small.
– Next, forgive the other person, whether you think they deserve it or not, forgive them. You don’t have to reach out in person unless you are feeling up to it, but at the very least forgive them in your mind and your heart.
Forgiveness is powerful and releases the negative energy that can cause many possible disease situations and a life of living upset. Life is meant to live with joy and peace. You are in control of both of these based on what you choose.
I hope this post helps you add some peace and joy in your life today and going forward for your total healthy lifestyle.
