Today I wanted to be sure you are staying vigilant and prepared for when life swings at you with the intent to knock you down, throw you off your game, or just set you on the sidelines for a bit, especially when it comes to your health and fitness.
Doesn’t it seem like you get in a groove and then WHAM! Something changes or throws you off? Happens to me all the time. Sometimes I laugh because it’s daily. Dang life!! I know you’ve heard the saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” The saying couldn’t be more relevant in our current world these days. Right?
2020 was the ultimate test of this for sure. And, 2021 seems like it’s an extension of that at first take. But, then again, life is always testing this isn’t it?Without getting too deep into the mindset of what does it actually mean when “the going gets tough” (because tough is simply the meaning you give the experience), let’s just look at this from a more practical perspective. Stuff in life is going to happen. We’re all going to deal with tough situations.
– Loved ones are going to pass away.
– Relationships are going to be challenging and sometimes end.
– Work is going to have its ups and downs. Dang, try owning a fitness business right now!
– You might face a big move, send your kids off to college, or have a baby.
The point is, there’s always going to be “tough” times, and if every time things got tough you gave in and gave up, where would you be? Well, for some reading this, you are still right where you are or where you started because that’s what you always do – Sorry for the directness but it is what it is. As a fitness coach, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people just stop their training because things got difficult or busy. This is actually the time when it’s so critical to fit in fitness and self-care. In fact, we practice during the easier times so we can do it during the harder times.
We discussed this in our morning small group. We train our bodies in a challenging way so when life tries to knock us down physically we say “oh, not today thank you!” It’s imperative to be flexible. Make a shift. So, maybe you do fewer sessions per week or do it early in the morning. You improvise, adapt, and overcome challenging situations instead of giving in and giving up.
Our company name is IMpowered Fitness. Not by chance, but with intent. IMpowered is a state of being. The word is spelled “IM” as in saying “I AM”. It’s a declaration, not a hope or wish. This is how we create a lifestyle. “I AM”. Not giving up but IMpowering to live strong and healthy regardless.
– I AM getting in my exercise because my health is important to me and my family
– I AM taking 15 minutes for mediation because my state of mind and sense of being require this
– I AM powerful and being flexible because life will NOT knock me out
– I AM strong and I don’t quit
Take a minute and think of 3 for yourself. What are You at this Moment? I AM….
Staying consistent and flexible is an opportunity to create a habit. You will create one, one way or the other. You’re either going to develop the habit of getting it done when it’s tough or being a quitter. Yes, quitting is a habit! You get to choose what happens when things get tough. What choice are YOU going to make when things get tough(er) in 2021?
