Today I wanted to offer you some very effective tips, that are refreshingly NOT diet related, to help with weight management or weight loss. I recommend that you read through these then go back through again to see where you may benefit the most. And the most important step, put one of these steps in ACTION today.
Here we go.
1 What’s your true ‘why’? – I know you want to lose weight and look good. However, there is usually something a little deeper that motivates you to lose weight. Ask yourself why, then ask why to that answer, then do it again until you drill down to your real why.
Is it because you currently can’t play with your kids? Are you are embarrassed or frustrated because you can’t participate in physical activities with your friends? Are you fighting a disease that could end your life early or debilitate you and you will miss out on your kids’ lives or being with your spouse? Just a few thoughts here – These are real examples of ‘WHY’ from my clients. So dig deep and be real. What is your Why?
2- Progress over perfection mindset – Are you the kind of person who wants to be perfect at everything? If something isn’t working fast enough or well enough do you give up or quit or switch to the next shiny object that marketing says is magical?
Healthy weight and wellness are a lifestyle. There are ups and downs, bumps in the road, challenges, and the best part of course is that these are many victories, big and small. Being consistent (80% or more of the time) creates an overall win for you and will result in positive progress over time.
If you are 1% better today that you were yesterday, that’s progress and worth acknowledging. Keep going.
3 – Focus on adding, not losing, or giving up things – This is a great time to try new exercises, activities, or even new foods. Look for ways to add new and fresh ideas to yourself and your family. Too many people are focused on giving up things. But really what are you giving up?
Sugar which makes you fat, inflamed, and unhealthy. Or, baked goods and empty calories which generally do the same.
If you think about it from a positive mindset, you just gained a TON of new opportunity to improve the way you feel, and really only lost the things that are not helping you live a full life or make you feel lousy.
4- Make your exercise and activity fun – I always tell my clients and family, do what you enjoy. This way you will stick with it and it enhances your life. Go for a hike with your family, do some high intensity back yard games. We play beach ball baseball and beach ball dodge ball, massively fun and super exhausting for the whole family.
5- Get your friends and family involved with you – Research has proven that sharing your goals and encouraging others adds accountability, motivation, and support. We are generally community people. We feel good when we do things with others. Play, engage, enjoy, and you will likely be a positive influence on others also.
Go back through the list later and see which ones will really make a difference for you. I guarantee that if you put some of these tips into play today in your life you will see positive change.
