Have you started looking ahead to 2021 and decided that you want to start your New Year off on the right foot? Personally, I am because I want to make some changes this year. Personal, financial, with my clients, business, everything better this year. Not because of COVID but because I am striving for growth. It’s part of me.
So let’s get you kicked off this year with a plan and some tips to make everything better regardless of your circumstances. We know the overall landscape of work, home, social interaction, school, and especially health is still going to be different. And let’s face it, some version of all of this will be the new norm. So, if you make the adjustments mentally, physically, and emotionally by preparing for success, then you are far more likely to BE successful and have a tremendous year (sounds cliché but its proven fact).
You know I want to help you prepare for more success than ever, so I have a few tips to help get you started. Use some or all or whichever ones resonate with you.
Here is huge tip for mental success: if there are any tips here that you do not want to do or make you uncomfortable when you read them, take a step back and ask yourself why. And then go after that one specifically. Its likely blocking you from making massive progress.
1. Take Stock of 2020
Take an honest look back at 2020 and assess what went well, what didn’t, and what you can improve on now. Write down a list of your accomplishments—and address struggles or failures, so you know how to move forward in 2021. Writing things down helps it sink in your brain so you can reflect. The goal here is to help you appreciate everything you did in 2020 (because there is a lot of good that happened) and set your mind to look forward to 2021.
2. Finish Last Year’s Goals
Do you still have goals lingering from 2020? That’s ok (I do too). Write them down, figure out how to make them small and achievable and make a plan to get them done and crossed off the list first. Especially if it is health, weight, or exercise related. There is no reason you shouldn’t start now. Literally right now (email me back to get started if you need help). Crossing any small goal off your list will give you a sense of accomplishment, and keep you motivated to reaching higher for 2021.
3. Be Realistic
2021 offers a lot of promise. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. Be realistic with yourself—and your goals. The more real talk you can have with yourself about 2021, the better prepared you will be when things get rough and you feel like giving up. This is where a good coach comes in to help you define not only What you want but How to get it with a plan.
4. Put Yourself First
You need to put your health first, period. I know, I know, you run your household, your spouse, your kids, your company and you take care of all their needs first because you are a top notch quality person; however, you have to take the ‘ME‘ time every day. I am only suggesting short daily recharge breaks. Short workout, mindset recharge, yoga, whatever restores your energy to manage all the other facets of your life. This is key to you maintaining the high level that you operate at.
Health is a priority now more than ever. Use the airplane rule “put your own oxygen mask on first”. Once you are solid and healthy you will excel at taking care of everyone else.
5. Maintain Balance
Although you may have goals you want to accomplish, it’s important that you maintain some sort of balance in your life. Maybe you noticed how important balance was in 2020. Maybe your balance got tipped way out of whack because the rules of life were changing daily (and some still are). Without awareness of balance, it could lead to high stress overload, mental demands and a sense of being on the hamster wheel just running full speed to nowhere.
Start looking at any imbalance that keeps you from feeling mentally, emotionally, and physically healthy. Identify the areas that need a small adjustment and don’t fear making changes. Small changes now, lead to big positive changes later. Keep that balance in your life so you can reach your goals, while also meeting your life demands.
In a nutshell, 2021 has promise, hope and opportunity if you are prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally. Use these tips to get started, share them with a friend and have a conversation about them. As always, I am here to help Coach you to greatness when ready.
