Did you know that your habits will dictate your success in life regardless of the topic? It could be career, fitness level, relationships, financial, total health etc.
Have you examined or noticed your habits lately? Have they changed with our unique circumstances in life these days? Did they change for the good or not so good?
Aristotle once said, “We are the sum of our actions, and therefore our habits make all the difference.”
Think about that for a second. We are defined by what we do. Not by what we want to do. Our lives are the sum of our habits.
How in or out of shape you are is a result of your habits. Do you have a routine that you stick to every day? Is it a priority? Do you eat healthily and focused during the week and throw it all away with fattening foods and alcohol for the weekend? This too is a habit and not one for lasting success. How happy or unhappy you are is a result of your habits. How successful or unsuccessful you are is a result of your habits.
So, how are your habits treating you? No judgement but take an honest look.
Here is one tip to get you started making ANY change you truly desire and sincerely want to make. Not just that what sounds good in the moment, but the long term change that stops you from constantly thinking, “I really need to do that now.”
Habit Tip #1
Determine your ‘WHY’. Why do you want to change? When you ask yourself, the first response is typically from logic. Let’s say you put on 10-15 pounds and are heading for more. Why do you want to lose the weight? Logic says: I want to be healthier or I want to fit in my clothes. Yes that is true; however, your true answer is generated from emotion. There is a deeper reason that drives you. It may be more along the lines of “I’m not able to play with my kids because I have no stamina or can’t get down on the floor and back up.” Maybe it’s, “heart disease runs in my family and I’m going down the wrong path.”
Ready to make a change?
Here’s how to take action and figure out your why:
– Ask yourself the questions of why you want to (insert your goal here).
– Ask yourself why you want that (answer from the first time you asked)
– Ask again, and so on.
– Repeat this 4-5 times or until you GET REAL with yourself on why you want to make a change.
Once you determine your “why” and make that change, it is now a priority and can be turned into a lasting habit. This why will inspire and motivate you. Write it down and keep it in your view throughout your day. Every time you feel yourself slipping into your old habit or you need to get refocused, read your WHY and feel it.
If you are not currently working out at least 2-3 times per week that’s a habit I strongly suggest you get figured out ASAP. This one habit will transform your life in so many ways.
Go determine your Why.
