Do you feel like there is so much to know when you’re first starting out on a new fitness routine? That’s normal, most of us do. So, before you join a class, randomly grab any of the millions of YouTube workouts, or start a program at your home, here are 10 decisions you need to make to be massively successful.
Give each questions a minute of thought and actually write down your answers. Writing them down helps you create clarity and establish your goals.
1. What You Want (really, and ask yourself – why?)
Do you want to lose weight? Build muscle? Get healthier? You need to know exactly what you want to accomplish from your workout plan. Having your goals down on paper will help guide your program when you do get started. – Knowing your ‘Why’ makes your goal and motivation even stronger.
2. Start Slow
If you want to stay consistent with your program, you should start slowly. Consider your workout a couple times a week, for 30 minutes. Not only does this help you establish a routine, it gives your body a chance to recover. – I see people start at 5 times per week pace and they usually flame out equally as fast. Or they are miserably sore. Not encouraging.
3. Find a Support Network
Do you have friends who have like-minded goals or workout with a group? Is there a class with the people who have the same goals as you (IMpowered Fitness perhaps)? Finding people who will support you on your quest to better health can act as motivation to sticking with your plan. – Positivity is uplifting and contagious. Your journey requires this.
4. Do Something You Like
There is nothing worse than doing an exercise you hate. It’s one of the easiest ways to ruin a good workout. Choosing activities you like to do could go a long way to helping you stick with your workout plan. – This is a big one. Although our motto here is ‘Hate me now, Love me later” its still enjoyable to be in our group because of the members. Especially when your session is over and you feel amazing and victorious for showing up.
5. Accept Setbacks
Setbacks are going to happen. But you can’t let them stop you from the goals you’ve set in place. You need to keep going forward—and be persistent. There is a lot you can learn from setbacks, and the drive and motivation you have to keep going. – Setbacks are the Universe’s way of making sure you are dedicated – Kick the setback in the teeth and keep pushing on.
6. Don’t Skip the Warm Up (or cool down)
Although they may seem insignificant, never skip your warm up or cool down. Warming up prevents injuries and prepares you mentally, and the cool down is ideal for lowering your heart rate, and improving your flexibility. Spend adequate time for these two phases of your workout.
7. No Comparing To Others
Everyone is on their own fitness journey. And you can’t expect to be where everyone else is. Comparing yourself to others could also tank your motivation by creating negative self-talk. Instead of comparing, use them as motivation to get better and keep pushing forward. Everyone else is here for a personal reason also, just like you. And nobody is looking at you, put your head down and stay focused on your goal. You may be motivation for someone else….
8. Don’t Expect Results Immediately
You won’t see results right away. It takes time, persistence, and dedication to your plan. Give it time, and the results will come. – Another universal energy test. Do you have the will and persistence to get what you really want? If you feel like quitting, remind yourself Why you started and ask what your life will look like if you quit?
9. Leave Your Excuses At The Door
There are plenty of things that could distract you from your goals. But you can’t let excuses ruin your progress. Packing your gym bag the night before and prepping your meals on the weekends are great ways to eliminate excuses that often cause you to put off your plan. – Our program is the ‘No Excuse Workout plan’ you have 30 minutes in your day to get it done. If not, schedule a 20 minute coaching session with me and I will help you plan your day for success.
10. Be Grateful
You’re healthy…you’re making changes…or you lost a couple pounds. Celebrate the small things, and be grateful that you made another workout…or took a small step forward, or you showed up for yourself!. – Stay positive and let any negativity go away. There is only space for your positive successful attitude on your journey. Remember anything negative is a learning lesson. Learn, apply, move on.
These Top 10 should get you on a solid plan to make tremendous success for yourself.
